Northern Needles

Well first we have Maddie….short for Madeline. She’s our new baby. She’s 3 1/2 y.o. and she’s a Sheltie. What a beauty! We got her from a friend just after Christmas. They were unable to keep her and were looking for a home. Lady and Maddie bonded within minutes and they are fast friends and new sisters. They love each other.

Then there are the cousins. Bailey and Kodiak. They are quite different now from their baby pictures as they are a year old now. Lady tolerates their youthful behaviour when they visit.

Here is Maddie’s old roommate. A year old Black Lab named Yukon. Our friends are trying to find a new home for him too since they just are unable to keep their dogs at this time. I’m trying to be strong and not take every dog I come across. But isn’t he a cutie?

Just wanted to share a picture of my girl Lady. She’s a 4 y.o. black lab/blue heeler cross. The softest black hair with a pretty scarf of mottled black/white draped around her shoulders.

She was a shelter rescue last April. When we found her she was quite run down. She had been neglected and beaten (was very very frightened of men) and had already produced 4 litters of puppies. She was very tired. She’s now been spayed and has had a nearly full year of loving and warmth and good food and she’s just not the same dog any more. She is no longer afraid of men, although that took quite a few months to get to that point, and she plays like a puppy. She did put on a bit of christmas weight though…LOL…but I’m sure the -48 Celcius temps had a lot to do with her curling up and hibernating for days at a time.

Can life get any better? LOL…yes, we’ve been hovering around -45 to -50 Celcius this week and now our oldest comes down with chicken pox. Between the itchings and the dogs not wanting to go outside at all (apparently they are willing to “hold it” till it warms up) and the many runs into the kitchen to make everyone hot chocolate, I’m exhausted. Where’s a trip to Mexico or Hawaii when you need it?

On the plus side I’m getting lots of stitching done. I’ve been working on my sister’s Wild Menagerie piece . Plus I stitched a scissor fob. Plus I finished my part of a round robin piece. I have to keep my fingers moving or they freeze LOL!
