September 2006

Snow, yes snow.

We had some snow on Sunday, but that got washed away immediately by rain.  However, neighbours just south of us nestled up against the side of another mountain had over 4 inches in their yard.

The mountains around us are all white and pretty.  It’s a beautiful site to wake up to, to sit and look out the window and to drive to town with.  Purely breathtaking.   On one hand I want everyone to see it and on the other hand I want to be selfish and keep it all to myself so everyone in the world isn’t tempted to move here and ruin the landscape with building, etc.

But then today we have a chinook….14 degrees Celcius, a warm warm wind blew in and reminded us of spring.  Barefeet and shorts all around!

You Are a Traditional Christmas Tree

For a good Christmas, you don’t have to re-invent the wheel.

You already have traditions, foods, and special things you bring out every year.

Disney's Belle

In the past I’ve stitched many times for various charity stitching groups.  Currently I have two squares to do for quilts.  One is for a little 2 y.o. girl named Emily in British Columbia.  She has cancer and a friend of mine is organizing a stitched quilt for her to have to show our support while she goes through her treatments.    I chose to do Belle and she’ll have a circle of purple around her which is Emily’s favourite colour.

The other square that I’m doing but haven’t started yet is for the Jessica Lunsford memorial quilt ( http://p079.ezboard.com/fworldtradecentermemorialquiltfrm8 ).   We haven’t a theme yet but once we do I’ll be stitching my little heart out.

Stitching a little quilt square may not seem like much in the grand scheme of life, but the time and skill you devote to that one little square, the comfort you leave behind with every stitch, to the recipient it means the world.  Someone remembers, someone cares, my child meant something to someone.   Isn’t that what every parent hopes for?

Emily, I wish you all the best, I wish I could hold you and make all the hurt go away.  Instead I will hug my daughters every day and hope in some way you feel it.

Jessica, be at peace, and I hope your family feels the support of those around them to help them go on.
