September 2008

Virginia Cardinal

Here is my Virginia Cardinal on a teacup.  This pattern is from the UK magazine The World of Cross Stitch.

And every stitch was made with care.  This piece will be going off to be made into a quilt with many others.  A lady that I know from a message board has fallen ill with cancer.   This friendship square was a pleasure to stitch for her and I hope that when she receives the quilt she feels how much she is appreciated.

challenge

Oh what fun it is to be creative!

At our AGM in June (Yukon Guild of Needlearts) we were given a wonderful challenge.  We received packages of mystery floss, fabric, tokens, embellishments and instructions to use at least part of everything in the package and come to the September meeting with our finished project.

You could see the minds whirring.

I chose to create a frolicking mermaid playing in the waves.  Unfortunately, I had a nap before the meeting on thursday and woke up groggy and managed to forget to take it with me!  I also forgot my hand outs…and paper…and a pen.  But I did manage to throw my scissors in my purse so it wasn’t all bad.

It was great to see the different finishes, to see how we all approach needlework and manage to come up with completely different end products.

Alas I did not win the prize, that went to another lucky guild member.  She got a package of teas, honey sticks, a pretty fall coloured teapot and some treats to eat to go with it.  Darn it.  LOL.

Oh, I somehow managed to include in the photo my latest work in progress (truly by accident).

Baby Zeva

one more puppy shot.

Welcome Baby Zeva!  Yes, we have now officially named her.  Baby Zeva it is.

We had our first vet visit today for the first needle.  She is a whopping 2.3 lbs!

The vet says we won’t know the father for sure until she’s about 3 or 4 months old and looks more dog-like.  We’re pretty sure the father is a tahltan bear dog but there is a chance it was a weiner dog that was in the general area.  At least we know the mother LOL…a gorgeous chihuahua…so pretty with her long hair and delicate.

So we wait.  And it’s so long to wait!

Margaret Sherry

Whew…all done!  I love Margaret Sherry designs.

What can I say?  I went to work today and fell in love.  How could you not with this face???

 Puppy sept 9

I got to visit this little girl and her litter mates and momma a few weeks ago in Carmacks.  The owner knew I had left a piece of my heart behind so today I got a phone call.  She was heading to Whitehorse and bringing the puppy with her.  Could I give her a loving home?  OF COURSE!!!!  The girls were awestruck when they got home.  She is the sweetest little thing and already a part of the family.  As of yet unnamed because none of us can agree on a name.  Daughter #1 and I like Zeva (after the lady investigator on N.C.I.S. - our favourite tv show)…Daughter #2 likes Baby….DH says Willie.

She is part Bear Dog (which you can read more about here:   http://www.everythinghusky.com/features/beardog.html  ) and part long haired chihuahua.  So she is going to be a small one.

And already with the huge attitude.  She believes she’s a much larger dog then she really is.  Played herself right out after dragging things around the living room.  Things about 20 times bigger then her.

After a while Lady had enough and begged to go outside.

There’s only so much baby one old girl can take!

Wait for me!

However, this little girl is not to be left behind!

All this and she’s only just arrived!!!!

Stay tuned for her eventual name and hopeful acceptance to the family by Crammer (who is very put out that no one discussed with him the addition of another dog into the mix, don’t you know one is plenty, there is only so much dog that one cat can control).
