April 2009

Lets talk about the good stuff first!

A quilting blog that I enjoy visiting held a contest recently and yours truly was the winner!  Yay me.

http://seabreezequilts.blogspot.com/ is the home of an inspirational lady who is a creative genius.  This week I received her necklace called Endurance.  It’s truly stunning and I will treasure it always!

More good news, it’s spring retreat time for our needlework guild and we are spending the weekend at Inn on the Lake at Marsh Lake.  We go twice a year and stay at the Caragana Cottage.   There is usually 5 - 6 so it makes it a really special time.  The same stitchers tend to go and I’ll be honest, even if there wasn’t a guild, I’d still go spend the weekend with these women.  They are terrific.

Ok, now for the bad news.  I’ve lost my camera!  I’m hoping it’s lost in the house otherwise I will never find it.  Even if it’s lost at home I may never find it LOL!  Last week was Rotary Music Festival week here in the Yukon.  My daughter performed with her class on friday and I took pictures!  And now I don’t know where my camera is.  Unfortunately, it hasn’t been turned into lost and found at the arts centre.  If someone took it home they’d have fabric photos, stitching photos, puppy photos and a few long distance elementary class performing pictures.  Oh dear.  Please think good thoughts that I’m just losing my mind and it’s here at home, please!

So I may not be able to post photos for a while, which is just a shame as we had a sewing class this week, and I have more bags that should be done soon, not only that, my first little art quilt!

Have a great weekend everyone!  Vivian

Here it is!  My first bag.  It was a spring exchange and I decided to push my boundaries and come up with something unique.

The colours in person are very rich, the brown is nearly like chocolate, you so want to eat it LOL.

The stitching is a design by Sam Sarah Design Studio called Hip Hop Ewe.  I just love this design and can see myself stitching it at least one more time!

And Sara, I know, I know, you want a bag.

 Happy Spring Stitching!!!!

Vivian

I’m having so much fun making these bags!   This is bag #2, using a Lizzie Kate pattern that I modified to work with the fabric that I picked out.

Since just before Christmas I’ve been taking sewing and quilting lessons.  I’ve just love them.

I’ve taken the things I’ve learned so far and incorporated them into this bag.  It’s funny, I’ve told my friends these last few months that I couldn’t understand why I have been enjoying the classes so much.  Quilting seems like a craft that you would need to be exact, to follow directions.  So not me!

But this is why, so I can take what I’ve learned and make it my own.

For years I’ve created cross stitch patterns, not for lack of patterns available out there in the world, but because I prefer to use my imagination.

Now I have this whole new world opened up to me.  I can’t wait to see what happens!

And here she is, my little Baby Zeva, now 8 months old.  She does have a tail, it just goes missing sometimes.

Happy Stitching everyone!

SanMan Designs

Easter is coming soon with a Hippity Hoppity!

This adorable design is by SanMan Designs and I loved every stitch of it.

It now resides with my fellow Diva buddy as it was part of our Spring exchange.

Unfortunately I don’t have a camera available so I can’t post a picture of what I received in the exchange, it’s a beautiful biscornu (my first biscornu!!!) and I’ve already made good use of it, I had an all day quilting class on Saturday and got to show off (I mean make use of) my handmade treasure.

Happy Stitching!!!!  Viv

PS:  This is a photo that Sara took as my camera was “inactive” and I couldn’t take a pic before mailing.
