August 2009

And off I go to Manitoba to get my girlies!!!!!!   August 14th can’t come soon enough for me.

I can’t wait, I miss them so much.  Ok, I’m not going to talk about it b/c I will just cry.

First, something fun, and coincidental I do believe.  Check out Sipiweske Quilt’s blog, she’s having a contest for a wonderful wall hanging.  The coincidence?  She’s in Manitoba.  Further coincidence?  The contest ends on August 14th.   I’m hoping the quilting gods are shining down on me LOL.

Be sure to check out her contest, if I can’t win it, you may as well!    http://sipiweskequilts.blogspot.com/2009/08/200th-post-giveaway.html

So what am I doing today?  I squared off a pile of blocks for my zig zag quilt and pieced one row together so now I know how wide the quilt will actually be.  (pics to come)

And I’m working on the sampler I designed for Habitat for Humanity.  The Yukon’s 2nd and 3rd habitat houses will be ready at the end of the month.  For the first one, I designed a sampler unique to the Yukon using the habitat colours and made the sampler in bands to represent the different areas of the Yukon. Our needlework guild members took turns stitching the various bands.  Now I have to finish this one to get it to the framer in time!  I need more coffee!!!!!!!

Well, back to the sampler or I’ll never get any sleep tonight.  Take care all!  Vivian

The forest fires continue to grow…the smoke from Teslin has reached us and socked us in.

I woke up in the middle of the night tasting the smoke, scared me right out of bed thinking something was on fire right close by.  No, just left the windows open and the smoke had moved into the area from Teslin over the night.  The Alaska Highway from Jake’s Corner to Teslin was closed last I heard as the fire jumped the highway.  Between this and the fires to the north near Carmacks that have been active for a month now…it’s smokey.

But lets talk about other things not as depressing.  I finished Lisa’s doll quilt last week and washed it and stuck it in the dryer to make it all crinkly.  My first time doing freestyle stippling!!!!  Yay!!!  I was so scared but just sucked it up and did it.  Whew.  I’m quite pleased with the effort.  Now I can officially start my zigzag quiltalong (I’ve got it cut out not pieced yet).

Thanks for looking!!!  And happy smoke free day to everyone, I wish we had one.
